Rickey Jackson  – #57 – played at the linebacker position for the New Orleans Saints for over a decade between 1981-1993. A second-round pick out of Pittsburgh in the 1981 NFL draft, Jackson was an immediate starter on defense and was voted onto the NFL All-Rookie team after playing in all 16 of the team’s games that year. This would prove to be the first of his many professional career accolades.

He performed consistently well for the team and was voted to the Pro Bowl 6 times through the mid-80’s and early-90’s. He also only missed 2 games during his 15-year career showing just how honest, dedicated and tough he really was. He contributed massively to the famous “Dome Patrol” unit of the New Orleans Saints’ defense. This was the nickname given to the starting 4 linebackers of the Saints at that time and who were considered by some to be the best linebacking group of all time!

The members of the “Dome Patrol” were Rickey Jackson, Pat Swilling, Sam Mills and Vaughan Johnson. To try and gauge just how good this unit of linebackers were together whilst playing for the Saints, they combined for 10 All-Pro selections and 18 Pro Bowls with all four of them going to the 1992 Pro Bowl together – the first and only time this has ever happened!

After 13 years with the Saints, Rickey Jackson went to the San Francisco 49ers and would play at the DE position where he would win his only Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXIX (29) when they convincingly beat the San Diego Chargers by a score of 49-26. He retired a year later after the 1995 season.

When he left the Saints, Rickey Jackson held many team records including; Most seasons: 13, Most Games: 195, Most Sacks: 123, Most Opponent Fumbles Recovered in a Season: 7 and In Career: 26 and Most Sacks in a Game: 4.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2010 as a salute to the great career he had in the NFL. He is currently the only member of the “Dome Patrol” to be given the honour of being voted into the Hall of Fame and was awarded the most selections as a Pro Bowler and All-Pro out of that unit.

The best of the best you could say.
